On Wednesday, November 30, the Georgia Southern University Programming Board invited students to get in on the school spirit with the Georgia Southern Basketball Block Party at Hanner Fieldhouse.
"We've done it every year," said the Director of the Office of Student Activities, Memory Littles. "Especially when we have double header basketball games just to encourage students to come in support of our men's and women's basketball teams before the game to get them excited."
Unfortunately, the event turnout was poor this year due to even poorer weather conditions for a portion of the event, but the party held on nonetheless. According to Littles, the usual turnout of this annual event averages around 300 students.
"Instead of canceling it, you know the game is still going on," Littles said. "So we still wanted students to come out and celebrate with us."
The block party offered grilled food like hotdogs and hamburgers. In addition, attendees could ride on the mechanical bull and play with a few basketball inflatables with music to keep the party lively.
That evening, Georgia Southern's women's basketball team played against Agnes Scott at 4:00 (W 35-126), followed by the men's basketball team facing off against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at 7:30 (L, 70-53).
You can see when upcoming men's basketball and women's basketball events are happening on the GSU website (Women's | Men's). Tickets can be purchased online or in person at Hanner.
The next home games are Men's Basketball vs. Piedmont on December 7 and Women's Basketball vs. Chicago State on December 9.
