The inaugural Bulls in the Boro event rides into Statesboro this weekend at the Bulloch County Agricultural Complex Arena. L-J Pro Rodeo will put on this exciting event, proudly sponsored by Woody Folsom Automotive and Circle F Farm.
This means that Statesboro citizens will have a chance to see professional cowboys compete against high-quality bucking bulls. The previous rodeo show at the arena has had nothing but success here in Statesboro, and Billy Springer, Ag Complex Manager, expects to see the same with this new event.
"We sold out our venue twice, both nights, each year," Springer said. "I really anticipate that to be the case here, which will put us close to 3,000 people here."
Bulls in the Boro is a regional offshoot of national-level bull riding. Rodeo fans can expect this to be a "bull riding only" event. But there will also be plenty of food, drinks, and merchandise at the event for those interested. Cowboys and bull owners will also compete against each other for a payout of up to $10,000.
"I anticipate that you get to see, like high-quality bulls, bull riding at its best in our area, for sure," Springer said.
Gates will open at 6pm on Friday, September 16, and Saturday, September 17, with the actual riding beginning at 8pm. Tickets are $20 at the gate, in CASH ONLY. All children 6 and under get in for FREE.
Bulls in the Boro promises to be an exciting new event for the people of Bulloch County. For more information on this year's event, contact Billy Springer at [email protected].
Job opportunities available
The event itself has been somewhat of a challenge to organize for Springer and his team, and they are in need of additional help to continue bringing awesome events like this to Statesboro.
"We are struggling to get good quality help," he said. "We are a unique job in one sense, being part of the county's recreation department. We work when most people play; unfortunately, most people play on the weekends."
Currently, they're offering jobs for a full-time maintenance supervisor and part-time support staff.
"This is not a regular nine to five, Monday through Friday only job," Springer continues. "That's not the job we have out here."
Springer explains that potential employees can expect to get time off and a flexible schedule due to the fickle nature of work times, making this a valid option of revenue for high school and college students, so long as they're free to work over the weekends. Details for these jobs can be found on Bulloch County's website.
