GALLERY | Statesboro community unites to distribute food to more than 1,000 families

In a touching display of solidarity and compassion, nearly 100 volunteers worked together in Statesboro, Georgia, to distribute truckloads of food to local residents in need. Organized by Feed the Boro, the food drop provided essential nourishment to over 1,000 families facing food insecurity in the area.

On a scorching Saturday morning in Statesboro, Georgia, nearly 100 dedicated Feed the Boro volunteers showed up to support their community by assisting in the distribution of truckloads of food.

The event, presented by Food Lion Feeds and The Islands in collaboration with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and sponsored by Weichert Realtors, aimed to provide much-needed nourishment to local residents.

With the help of these volunteers, over 1,000 families were able to receive essential food supplies at the food drop. Some families had even spent the night in their cars at Statesboro High School's parking lot in anticipation of the event.

During the food drop, Gary Martin and Bob Marsh from the VFW Post 10825 generously made a contribution to Feed the Boro, further supporting the cause.

Bulloch County's high poverty rate, standing at 29%, underscores the urgent need for such initiatives. Feed the Boro has been tasked with continuing to organize food drops that can provide a week's worth of meals for a family of four. To sustain this effort, community support is crucial.

The next food drop is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024, and the organization invites individuals to volunteer and contribute to helping those in need. In cases where volunteer positions are filled, another way to make a difference is by sponsoring a meal for individuals or families.

By making a contribution of just $15, you can sponsor a family of three, while $25 can support a family of five, and $100 can help feed 20 people. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, it costs approximately $5 per person to supply groceries for a week.

Feed the Boro continues to raise funds for various projects, including these food drops. Contributions can be made by sending a check to Feed the Boro at P.O. Box. 2736, Statesboro GA, 30459, or by donating online at www.feedtheboro.com.

The community's support is instrumental in addressing food insecurity in Bulloch County and ensuring that families have access to essential nutrition.
