The Bulloch County Farm Bureau, a division of Georgia Farm Bureau held their annual meeting tonight at First Baptist Church in Statesboro. Nearly 170 Farm Bureau members attended the annual dinner meeting. In addition to a delicious meal the membership held the election of officers, which include Bill T. Akers, President, David Cromley, Vice President, Charles Finch, Treasurer along with Directors: David Rushing, Freddie Blitch, Jane Cason, Bobby Joe Cason, Ryne Brannen and Joe Franklin.
WTOC TV South Georgia Bureau Chief Dal Cannady delivered the keynote address. Dal reminisced on his tenure as WTOC’s Bureau for now 23 years following the legendary reporter Jim Hilderbrandt. Dal shared the important role agriculture and farmers play in this region economically and culturally. It is their can do attitude, incredible spirit and remarkable work ethic that sets the bar for other industries to follow. He saluted everyone in attendance from the farmers, agribusinesses to the members of Farm Bureau for each of their critical role in supporting the agriculture segment of our economy. Dal said his greatest pleasure of his job is telling the stories of the remarkable farmers and citizens who work hard to make Bulloch and surrounding counties a great place to call home.
As Dal left the stage, he was called back up to be presented with one of the Bulloch County Farm Bureau’s highest honors, the Friend of the Farm Bureau Award. The award was presented by Tim, Faircloth, 7th district field representative for Farm Bureau. Tim explained to the audience how important of a partner to agriculture and to the Farm Bureau Dal is. He always responds to their calls and works hard to help communities their needs to his audience. He went on to say how tirelessly Dal works to present our agriculture community in its best light. For this reason and many more, they chose WTOC’s Dal Cannady as the recipient of this award.
Another highlight of the annual event is the entertainment, Friends of Bill T. They group of musicians are all friends of Bulloch Farm Bureau President, Bill T. Akers. They come together to help entertain the audience each year with their folk-some style of entertainment.
Georgia Farm Bureau works earnestly to serve nearly 300,000 member families. Being a Farm Bureau member makes you a part of their charge, to be a voice for Georgia agriculture. Together the Farm Bureau support farm families, locally grown food and faithful stewardship of the land.
