WEATHER ALERT: Storms expected in Bulloch Thursday afternoon

The NWS in Charleston has predicted strong storms for the region on Thursday afternoon. They are expected to arrive in the Statesboro area around 1pm.

Update 12:10pm: A tornado watch is now in effect until 7pm Thursday, May 9, for Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Screven, and Tattnall counties.

The National Weather Service in Charleston is predicting strong storms across the region this afternoon. A cold front will approach with widespread rain and thunderstorms. Expect some severe thunderstorms and rain into Friday evening.

The storms are expected to arrive in Bulloch County around 1pm. NWS predicts the possibility of damaging wind gusts of up to 60mph, some hail of up to 1", heavy downpours, and the possibly an isolated tornado. 

Residents should bring loose objects in from outside, watch for downed trees and power lines, and be sure to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

Another round of scattered thunderstorms could impact the region Friday. While there is considerable uncertainty regarding the placement and timing of these thunderstorms, any storms that do move through the area will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and/or an isolated waterspout.
