CAT 5 Hurricane Milton heading for Florida could impact Bulloch

Hurricane Milton is now a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 180 MPH as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico. Bulloch County could potentially see Tropical Storm force gusts of 35 MPH and 0.5-1.5” of rain overnight Wednesday.

Corey Kemp, Director of Bulloch County EMA has placed the EMA in readiness phase as they are monitoring Hurricane Milton.

Bulloch County has NOT been placed in Tropical Storm Watch.

Hurricane Milton is now a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 180 MPH as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm is expected to cross central Florida on Wednesday before emerging over the Atlantic Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Bulloch County could potentially see Tropical Storm force gusts of 35 MPH and 0.5-1.5” of rain overnight Wednesday.

However, the exact track remains uncertain, and small shifts in the storm's track, either north or south, could result in changes to impacts for Bulloch County.

Situation Overview:

  • Current conditions: Dangerous CAT 5, with sustained winds of 180 mph!
  • Movement: Expected to accelerate to the northeast Tuesday and Wednesday, then off the east-central FL Coast Thursday
  • Milton’s wind field expected to expand into our area Wednesday Night through Thursday

Expected Max Sustained Winds (mph):

  • Generally 20-30 mph wind, gust 30-35.
  • Impacts: Isolated to scattered power outages, downed and uprooted trees, broken tree limbs
  • Note: Some trees/limbs may break easier due to being weakened from “Helene”

Tropical Storm Force winds could arrive as early as Wednesday evening for Southeast GA.
