Shorthanded Lady Jackets fall
With multiple players on both teams still competing for other sports, the Jackets were shorthanded. Roughly half of the girls varsity team was on the bench in street clothes with them preparing for the flag football state championship game. This put the pressure on the 7 players that were dressed out to play in the game against an experienced Calvary Day team.
The experience and depth proved to be the difference in the game. The Cavaliers got out to a big lead early and held onto it all the way through.
This was the second game of the season for the Lady Jackets and there is a lot of time to develop and improve as the season goes on.
The Lady Jackets are now 0-2 on the season.
A rough 2nd quarter dooms the boys
The SEB boys team fell to the Cavaliers with a final score of 72-53. The score didn't show how the game actually went. The Jackets were almost even with their opponents for the whole game except the 2nd quarter.
After the first, SEB trailed by only 2 points. A rough second quarter plagued by turnovers led to the lead ballooning up to 18 going into the half. Head Coach Tony Raymond spoke on the run that his team allowed. "We just kind of sped up and that's been our Achilles heel this season; we kind of rush things," Raymond said. "We got a young team and sometimes we get caught up in the moment and we have a bad two or three minute stretch."
Coming out of the half, the Jackets settled down and began to get back to their game. A couple of 3s by Ash Collins were a part of a run that cut the game down to 13 before Calvary Day used a timeout. For the rest of the game, the two teams would trade buckets. That is something you don't want to do when you are facing a deficit like SEB was.
SEB had some newer faces on the court on Friday. They have received a lot of starters back due to the ending of the football season. Coach Raymond talked about how it has been to try and get those guys up to speed. "We are happy with the long football run, but now it is just taking time for some of these guys to get their legs back."
With this game, SEB fell to 1-6 on the season with a 1-1 record in region play.
