The Portal Panthers made a short trip up to Bryan County to take on the Redskins in a Friday night region matchup. The Panthers took home a 20-8 win against the Redskins.

The Panthers were able to bounce back from their last loss with a big win against a team that they have had trouble with in recent history.

1st Quarter: Stalemate in the opening period

Neither of the two teams got on the scoreboard in the 1st quarter. A fumble on Portal's first drive put the Redskins at midfield. The Panther defense was able to hold off the offense to keep them from breaking the seal on the game.

2nd Quarter: Portal jumps in front

Early in the second quarter, Portal recovered a fumble of their own when Bryan County was in scoring position. Plays later, Harold Washington  was able to escape to the outside and race down the field to the endzone to get the Panthers on the board. The two teams would trade scoreless possessions until Brian McQueen took a direct snap 80 yards down the field to extend the Panthers' lead to 13-0 going into the half.

3rd Quarter: The Panthers bite down on the Redskins

The Panthers held onto their momentum in the 2nd half when Kobi Burroughs picked off an overthrown pass on the Redskins' first drive of the second half. Portal would capitalize when Chase Smith connected with Zion Lanier for a 20 yard passing touchdown.

4th Quarter: Portal holds on

Going into the 4th quarter with a 20-0 lead, Portal only had to manage the game and control the clock, The stifling defense continued their strong performance when they got a stop on 4th down early in the final period. On 4th and short, a bad snap by Bryan County led to their qb sneak attempt resulting in a loss of yards. Later in the quarter, the Redskins found the endzone with a 5 yard rushing touchdown from Cooper Ennis.

Portal's record improves to 2-2 on the season with a 1-1 record in region play.
