With spring practice and graduation ceremonies come and gone and summer workouts in full swing, the attention has now turned to the fall as the Georgia Southern football squad marches toward its Sept. 2 opener against The Citadel at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. But before that game takes place, one more major project had to take place as the turf surface of Glenn Bryant Field was recently replaced.

The new "FieldTurf Vertex Prestige 2" turf system with CoolPlay top layer surface will now be used by the Eagles during practice and on game days. The installation of the Vertex Prestige system, a leading synthetic turf solution, is a two-part project, as the identical surface will also be installed at the Anthony P. Tippins Family Training Facility this summer.

FieldTurf Vertex Prestige is designed using FieldTurf's two-layer infill technology, comprised of specially designed slit-film fibers and high-performance ridged monofilament fibers. The fibrillation process of the slit-film component allows for proper infill encapsulation, while the monofilament fibers facilitate grass-like ball roll. Both fibers are tufted together in the same stitch for a superior aesthetic appearance. The pile height is two inches, and the infill is comprised of sand, ambient rubber and a top layer of CoolPlay.

In the NCAA, over 1,500 programs play on FieldTurf surfaces, including 2023 opponent Wisconsin, 2022 opponent Nebraska, and other programs such as Notre Dame, Oregon, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Michigan, to name a few.

In the NFL, FieldTurf is installed at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Falcons), Ford Field (Lions), Gillette Stadium (Patriots), Lumen Field (Seahawks), MetLife Stadium (Giants and Jets) and Bank of America Stadium (Panthers), with numerous other teams practicing on FieldTurf.

Eagle Nation can see the turf in person this fall by purchasing tickets at GSEagles.com/tickets. Watch a video of the installation process HERE.
