Men’s basketball suffers third consecutive loss at Marshall

Nakavieon White notches fifth 20-point effort of the season, Eagles fall to 1-7 on the road and 0-9 all-time in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W. Va.– Georgia Southern men's basketball (8-9, 1-4 SBC) went up 6-5 early in the first half, but then surrendered a 10-0 run to Marshall (10-8, 3-2) and never recovered, falling 81-69 on Saturday.

After a possession with no baskets to open the game, Nakavieon White found a cutting Avantae Parker for a 2-0 lead, followed by another Parker open look to make it 6-5 at , which was the final lead of the day for the Eagles. 

A 10-0 run by the home team followed. Coupled with a few missed free throws by the Eagles, Marshall began to dictate pace in the frame. After the Herd stretched the lead to as much as 16, the Eagles cut it back to six two separate times; the last of which after a layup by Adante' Holiman at 3:17.

White missed a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left and the Eagles trailed 45-35 heading into the half.

The Eagles got to within eight twice in the second half, the last of which was after a layup by Eren Banks with just over 17 minutes left. Despite this, the Eagles just couldn't muster enough of a comeback, trailing by as much as 18 for the remainder and dropping a third straight contest and ninth straight in Huntington by a score of 81-69.

White scored 22 points, his fifth time reaching 20 or more this season. Bradley Douglas had 14, the only other Eagle to join him in double figures. Tyson Brown had six points and a team-high six rebounds, and White swatted a pair of blocks.

The Eagles shot 45.5 percent in the loss, but made just five threes.

A trip to Coastal Carolina is up next on the schedule on Thursday.
