Game Notes

  • Seventh-seeded Georgia Southern will take on 10th-seeded ULM in the second round of the Hercules Tire Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET in the Pensacola Bay Center. The game will air on ESPN+ and the GS Sports Network.
  • The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face second-seeded Louisiana Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET in the Pensacola Bay Center. 
  • Georgia Southern is playing in its 43rd Division I conference tournament this year. GS is 34-37 all-time in conference tourneys, 6-7 in the Sun Belt Tournament, 22-11 as the higher seed, 3-2 as the seventh seed and 1-2 under head coach Brian Burg.
  • It's the second meeting between ULM and Georgia Southern this season. The Warhawks topped the Eagles 72-59 Jan. 19 in Hanner Fieldhouse.
  • The Eagles are 1-0 at neutral sites this season, having topped Western Michigan 63-57 in the Owl Invitational at Rice.
  • The Eagles capped the regular season with four of six games at home and went 4-2 during the span, winning all four home games. GS is coming off a 73-64 home win over Appalachian State Friday night.
  • Seven Eagles are scoring seven or more points a game, and only leading scorer Andrei Savrasov takes more than 10 shots a game (11.1/gm). Six different Eagles have led the team in scoring in a game this season.
  • The Eagles have notched single-digit turnovers in 11 games. GS ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in turnover margin (1.5) and fourth in the league in least turnovers (11.4/gm).
  • Savrasov, a second-team All-Sun Belt selection, has posted double-digit rebounds in five of the last eight games and has double-doubles in four of the last seven.  The redshirt senior ranks ninth in the Sun Belt in rebounding (7.4/gm), fourth in field goal percentage (.500), 12th in steals (1.4/gm) and fifth in double-doubles.
  • Jalen Finch has 112 assists and has become the first Eagle to record 100 assists in a season since Tookie Brown posted 154 in 2018-19. Finch is third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.11), eighth in assists (3.6/gm) and 10th in steals (1.4/gm). 
  • Carlos Curry ranks 11th in the Sun Belt in rebounding (7.0/gm) and 10th in double-doubles (4).
  • GS is 29-1 in its last 30 games when shooting 50% or better from the floor. The Eagles lost 94-87 at Louisiana Jan. 28 despite shooting 56.3%.
  • GS has won four of its last five games that were decided by one point. The Eagles fell 84-83 at Marshall Feb. 16.
  • The Eagles finished the season 12-4 in Hanner Fieldhouse, the most home wins since the Eagles went 13-2 in 2014-15.
  • Despite having a stretch of 10 straight games with the same starters, GS has used nine different starting lineups.
  • ULM has lost its last seven and is coming off a 64-61 home setback to Arkansas State Friday night.
  • Third-team All-Sun Belt selection ranks second on the team in scoring (12.9/gm) and first in assists (3.2/gm). Tyreke Locure leads the Warhawks with 14.5 points a game and shoots 38% from three-point range. 
  • The Warhawks rank third in the league in three-point percentage (.356) and fifth in three-pointers (7.6/gm).
