George Washington collected a 56-46 women's college basketball victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon in the nation's capitol.
The Eagles (4-1) suffered their first loss of the year, while George Washington (4-2) remained a perfect 4-0 at the Charles E. Smith Center this season with the win.
Georgia Southern hit just 3-of-15 shots from the floor in the first quarter, but still trailed by only three, 13-10, at the end of the period. The Revolutionaries opened up an 18-10 lead by scoring the first five points of the second quarter, but the Eagles closed back to within one before a three by GW's Sara Lewis pushed the home lead back to six, 31-25, at halftime.
In the second half, the Revolutionaries shot 58.3 percent to extend their lead to 13, 50-37, at the end of the third period. The Eagles were able to cut it to nine points, 55-46, with 2:59 left but neither team scored in the final 2:57 of the contest.

Nicole Gwynn scored 19 of the Eagles' 46 points on the day, hitting 6-of-18 shots from the floor including a pair of threes, as well as 5-of-7 shots from the foul line. She added three rebounds and three steals in the contest as well.

Georgia Southern hit just 4-of-21 three-pointers in the contest (19%), including just 1-of-11 after halftime. GW hit 7-of-15 threes (46.7%) in the game.

"We took some bad shots but we also missed a lot of open shots. And a couple of times where we hadn't made wide open threes, we overthought it and dribbled into the defense and made it a more difficult shot for us. So it was just a function of not shooting the ball well."

The Eagles will take a trip to Rutgers over Thanksgiving to participate in the Battle on the Banks tournament. Georgia Southern will play UMES on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., then take on host Rutgers on Saturday at 2 p.m.
