The Georgia Southern men's soccer team released the schedule for the upcoming fall 2023 season, announced head coach Lee Squires.

"We're excited for the Fall to begin," said Squires. "We get to test ourselves against several strong non-conference opponents, and compete in one of the top leagues in the nation. We want to bring a renewed optimism and energy to our program and our performances, and can't wait to get going."

The season will start off with three exhibition matches, with the Eagles opening the preseason slate on the road against the Winthrop Eagles on Saturday, August 12, at Rock Hill, S.C. The final two exhibition matches will be at Eagle Field, first against the Stetson Hatters on Wednesday, Aug. 16, before the Eagles take on Clayton State on Saturday, Aug. 19 to end the preseason.

Georgia Southern opens the season on the road for the second consecutive season, facing the East Tennessee State Buccaneers for the first time since 2018 and the first time ever in Johnson City, Tenn. Following that, the Eagles return home on August 27 to face UNC Asheville, who defeated the Eagles last season in Asheville, N.C. Georgia Southern opens the month of September with a road match at Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 1, before returning home for four-straight matches, the first two being against North Florida on Sept. 8, then against Jacksonville on Sept. 12.

Sun Belt Conference play begins in the middle of the four-match home stretch, starting with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Sept. 15. The Eagles will venture outside of SBC play on Sept. 19 to take on in-state rival Mercer to finish of the home stretch. SBC play will resume with a road match-up against West Virginia on Sept. 22 before the Eagles conclude September with a non-conference match up at UAB.

The Eagles open up October with a home conference match-up against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Oct. 1, before taking the road for three-straight road matches, starting with new SBC member UCF on Oct. 7. UCF joins as an affiliate member for men's soccer to coincide with their upcoming move to the Big XII Conference. After UCF, Georgia Southern takes on its final non-conference member of the regular season with a road match against the College of Charleston on Oct. 10, before concluding the road trip against SBC opponent Georgia State on Oct. 13.

The Eagles return home to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 18 before heading back north to take on the two conference opponents from the Commonwealth of Virginia, first with Old Dominion on Oct. 22 and finally with James Madison on Oct. 27. Georgia Southern will take on Kentucky on Oct. 31 in Statesboro to conclude the regular season.

This season will be the inaugural season of the Squires era for Georgia Southern men's soccer. Prior to accepting the head coach position at Georgia Southern, Squires was the head coach at Lander University for several years. Lander saw immense success under Squires, winning four Peach Belt regular season championships, two PBC tournament titles, and the 2018 Southeast Region title in the NCAA tournament. Squires coached players that would go on to earn 47 all-conference honors, 24 All-PBC Tournament accolades with two MVP designations, 17 all-region nods, three All-American distinctions, and three Scholar All-American awards. Lander would finish in the top 25 in three seasons, including a No. 5 final ranking in 2018 and 2020.
