Bulloch Academy bests Thomas Jefferson Academy

Bulloch Academy hosted Thomas Jefferson Academy at home Thursday night where their powerful offense dominated a resounding victory to pull away from TJA in both the girls and boys varsity matches.

STATESBORO – The Bulloch Academy Gators took on the Thomas Jefferson Academy Jaguars in Thursday night’s matchup.  Both teams dominated in a 60-28 win for the girls and a 71-40 win for the boys.

 

In the girls matchup, the Lady Gators jumped out to a 18-8 lead to begin the second quarter. They almost doubled that with a 30-16 lead at the half. They rolled on to a 47-21 lead at the end of the third and held the Jaguars to a 13-7 run in the fourth to solidify the win.

 

The leading scorers for the girls game was senior guard Ashantay Noble with 25 points and 11 rebounds. That performance was followed by Maralyne Belcher with eight points, Emme Powell with seven points, Rylie Ann Claxton with five points, Adylee Davis, Kaley Cardell, Brylie Ray and Zariah Major with three points and Anderson Roach and Mckenna Furnari with two points.

 

The boys matchup was played in a similar sense of fashion. By the end of the first quarter, the Gators were out to a 29-9 lead. At the half, that was almost doubled with the Gators leading by 28 up 50-22. The boys were a lot more relaxed in the fourth only gaining 5 points in the fourth to win the game 71-40.

 

The leading scorers for the boys game was junior guard Jackson Sheppard with 16 points. He was followed by Ike Hubbard, Keyonte Mayner, William Polk and Sam Hubbard each with six points. Will Ellis, JB Roach and Whit Olliff contributed five points to the score. Shemar Jenkins added four points, Brennen Perossa had three and Ben Aaron added two points.

 

The Gators will be back in action next Tuesday for their first region matchup against the Westminster Schools of Augusta High School. The girls will begin at 6 p.m. with the boys following at 7:30 p.m.
