Mr. Sidney Alston, age 64, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away on Thursday morning, January 9, 2025, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility.

Born on December 2, 1960, in Washington D.C., Sidney was a proud graduate of the Statesboro High School class of 1978. During his high school years, he was an active member of the chorus and track team. Sidney furthered his education at Morehouse College, where he was an esteemed member of the Morehouse Glee Club and the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., initiated Grand PI fall of 1980, Krimson Resurrection . He was also a charter member of the Statesboro Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, marking his dedication to both his college and community.

In his professional life, Mr. Alston made significant contributions to his community. He retired in October 2024 from the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners, where he worked as a building inspector and zoning official. He had previously served as a code enforcement officer for the city of Statesboro and was a licensed general electrical contractor.

Sidney was a long-time and faithful member of Brannen Chapel United Methodist Church, where he actively served as a member of the male chorus, president of the male chorus, chairman of the trustee committee, and chairman of the Administrative Council.

In his leisure time, Sidney enjoyed bass fishing at his favorite pond and was a passionate football fan. Sidney’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his community, and his faith.

Mr. Alston is preceded in death by his parents, George Gordon Alston and Almanette Riggs Lampson. He is survived by his daughters, Jarissa Brown and Claire Alston, both of Statesboro, GA; two sisters, Avatara Qtub of Detroit, MI, and Desiree Franklin of Statesboro, GA; two brothers, Doug Smith of Metter, GA, and Courtney Alston of Statesboro, GA; his grandchildren, Freddie Z. Brown, Jaceon Brown, Braeden Lawrence, Marvin Swift, Anna Swift, Jordan Alston, Darrell Key Jr., Sage Alston, and Kamaris Evans; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M., at Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
Mr. Alston will lie in repose on the day of service from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.

The funeral service for Mr. Sidney Alston will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Brannen Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elder Donald Chavers, Jr., Presiding and the Rev. Kenneth Griffin, Officiating. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
