Shirley Collins Lott

Metter - Shirley Collins Lott, of Metter and widow of Rev. Jerry Turner Lott, passed away at the age of 76 on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.

Shirley was born in Savannah, Georgia to Carroll Collins and Agnes Walsh Collins and grew up on the family farm in Cobbtown. She graduated as salutatorian of Collins High School in 1965. Shirley received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern College, now Georgia Southern University; and as a Methodist pastor’s wife moving every few years, she taught over 30 years in many schools across south Georgia including those in Treutlen, Toombs, Tattnall, McIntosh, Camden, and Harris counties.

Most recently, Shirley proudly served as SPR Chair at Metter Methodist Church where she was an active member and champion of the Christian faith. She was also an avid reader and served several years as chair and board member of The Friends of the Candler County Library. Shirley enjoyed gardening, especially tending to the flowers around her home.

Known as Mama, Grandma, Maw Maw, wife, daughter, aunt, cousin, best friend, and sweet lady, Shirley was loved by all and will be missed. She leaves a legacy of loving people and loving Jesus most of all.

Surviving are her children, Angela Carlson of Jacksonville, Florida, Johnnie Lott of Candler County, and David Lott

(Laura) of Candler County; her grandchildren, Annabelle Carlson, Rosalyn Lott, Turner Lott, and Declan Lott; Sister-in-Law Juanita Lott; Sister-in-Law Carolyn King; Special Niece Penny Lott; Special Nephew Joey Lott; Other Nieces and Nephews

The visitation will be held from 4 until 7 o’clock in the evening on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.

The funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Metter Methodist Church.

Interment will be in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Lott, Chris West, Pernal Franklin, Charles Holland, Matthew Gainous, and Jami Harrison.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sunshine Sunday School Class of Metter Methodist Church.
