Mr. Otis “Buck’ Oglesby, age 73, passed into rest, Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Augusta University Medical Center.
The native of Register, Georgia was the son of the late O.C. and Emma Lou Mincey Oglesby. He received his formal education in the public school system of Bulloch County and was a graduate of the William James High School class of 1969.
“Buck” as he was affectionately known to many, began his logging career with his father O.C. Oglesby. He loved the timber industry and was a self-employed timber harvester.
He was an active member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a usher.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Artis “Shug” Oglesby; grandchildren, Hope Dallas Williams and Kwasie Williams.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by his children, Lavenchi Oglesby, Brunswick, GA, Ren Oglesby, Atlanta, GA, Latunya P. (Aundra) Rock, Milner, GA, Shaundra Oglesby, Waterbury, GA, Kanisha Edenfield, Statesboro, GA, Jeffrey Oglesby (Janet Collins), Javis Oglesby (Alexis Bird), Jennifer Williams, all of Metter, GA, and Aaliah “Bee Bop” Heggs, Augusta, GA; brothers, Jimmy Oglesby, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, Wayne (Burnita) Oglesby, Register, Ga., Wiley (Inez) Oglesby, Statesboro, Ga., William Oglesby, Register, Ga., Willie (Raushana) Oglesby, Statesboro, Ga, and Kelvin (Charlynn) Oglesby, sisters, Katie O. Smith, Register, Ga., Carolyn O. Prescott, Forsyth, Ga., Jennie (Elder James) Blair, Wrightsville, Ga., and Sadie Harrison, Statesboro, GA, a host of grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing for Mr. Oglesby, will be held Friday, November 1, 2024, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., at the funeral home.
The funeral service for Mr. Otis "Buck" Oglesby, will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, November 2, 2024, in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc. with the Rev. Charles Weaver, Presiding and the Elder Donald Chavers, Jr., Officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
