Jack Calvin Peavy, 71, of Sylvania, passed at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center Friday afternoon, March 17, 2023.
Calvin was a native of Screven County and was born to John C., Jr. and Marie Dickey Peavy and raised on the family farm. He attended Screven County High school and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Afterwards, he returned to Screven County and had been employed with Torrrington, Plant Vogtle, and as a farmer and lastly, a log truck driver. He enjoyed maintaining his property, where he raised flowers and enjoyed bird watching. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and the VFW Post 7116. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Shirley Linda Kemp; and brother-in-law, Clifford Lee.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sheppard Peavy; a stepson, David Casie Callison; sister, Linda Peavy Lee; mother-in-law, Shirley Sheppard; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Albert and Judy Peavy, William and Betty Peavy, Wendell and Martha Peavy, all of Sylvania; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy Sheppard, and Carolyn Frischmann, all of Sylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11am in the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. B.J. Horne officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Double Heads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Peavy, John Peavy, Craig Jenkins, Randy Sheppard, and Casie Callison.
