Grace Donaldson Smith

October 11, 1930 - September 8, 2023 - Mrs. Grace D. Smith, age 92 passed from labor to reward on Thursday morning September 8, 2023, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice facility after a brief illness. 

She was a native of Bulloch County and a member of Brannen Chapel United Methodist Church.  She was educated in the public schools of Bulloch County having graduated from William James Industrial High School.  She furthered her education by attending Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. She later attended Georgia Southern College now University where she received a Masters Degree in Social Science.

Mrs. Smith's career began in 1951 at the Gordon Grove Elementary School Sylvania, Georgia and spread out over forty plus years, having taught at William James High School where she retired in 1992 and worked at Statesboro High School as the Social Science department head.

She was the recipient of many awards and honors to include the Dean Day Lifetime Achievement Award, a member of the Bulloch County Retired Teachers' Association, Georgia Retired Teachers Association, Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and many others.

Mrs. Smith leaves to cherish fond memories, two sisters, Mildred Patterson, Old Bridge, NJ and Carolyn Hughes, Statesboro, GA; three brothers, George (Evelyn) Donaldson, Kingston, NC, Paul Donaldson and Earl Donaldson both of Statesboro; three grandsons, William Smith, Bishop Smith and Eric Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Smith will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brannen Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Kenneth Griffin, pastor/eulogist and Reverend James Howard,  Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Public viewing on Wednesday. September 13, 2023, from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
