June 11, 1933 - June 4, 2023
Deacon Roosevelt "Sam" Love, age 89 passed away on June 4, 2023 at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native of Bulloch County and a life time member of Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.
Sam as he was affectionally known by his family and friends was one of the first black business owners in Statesboro. He served as a civil rights activist in the 1970's and was later elected as president of the Bulloch Branch of the NAACP where he served for several years.
Deacon Love is survived by his wife of forty plus years, Janice Richardson Love, son, Leamon Love (Derris), daughters, Julie Love, Sandra Simpkins (David), Patricia Love, Bonnie Cooper (Arthur) and daughter in love, Melinda Fletcher Robins(Crecy). He is also survived by five granddaughters and six grandsons, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
The celebration of life for Deacon Love will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, 291 Bethel Church Road, Statesboro, GA with the pastor, Elder Paul Moore officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Deacon Love will lie in state at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
