December 1, 1946  -  June 24, 2024

Laufane Brannen, 77, of Brooklet, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24th 2024. She was the eldest child of the late Lester Franklin and Juanita Hagins Waters. Laufane graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1964 and then attended Savannah Vocational School to study business. While attending school, she worked part-time for Nabisco and England Mutual Life Insurance. In 1967, she moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina and a short time later to New London, Connecticut. She returned to the Statesboro area in 1969 and joined the Statesboro Telephone Company, where she worked as an operator and directory assistant for 32 years. Beginning in 2003, she worked for Wal-Mart until her retirement 13 years later.

Laufane loved to travel, meet new people, and always looked forward to her next adventure. She was a proud farm girl and loved living in the country. In 1987, she took the opportunity to return to her family’s farm in Brooklet where she lived until her passing.

Laufane was a member of the First Assembly of God in Statesboro where she taught Junior Sunday School and was active in Ladies Circle, choir, puppet ministry, and softball. While on the softball team, she demonstrated her good humor by earning the title “Best Out-Maker” because of her consistent “pop-ups.” She later joined Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Brooklet where she participated in the choir, Ladies Circle, and adult Bible study.

Laufane was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lester Franklin Waters, Jr.; and a sister, Elswyth LaJuan Waters Lanier.

Surviving are her sister, Rhonwyn Stephanie Waters Rossman (Charlie), her brother, Russell Allen Waters (Lori), niece Trina Rossman Smith (Tony), nephews Andrew Lanier (Kendall), Gavin Rossman (Heather), Russ Waters (Erica), Reid Waters (Brooke), Riley Waters (Beth), Ramsey Waters (Katie), and numerous cousins. “Aunt Fane” also leaves behind six great nieces: Leila, Cora, Gatlyn, Memphis, Emmery, and Amelia, and five great nephews: Knox, Hagin, Maddox, Jack, and Aiden, all of whom she was immensely proud.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29 at 4:00 p.m. at the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Statesboro with Pastor Mike Oglesby officiating. A visitation with family and friends will follow the service.

Our family wishes to express our profound appreciation to the staff of Ogeechee Area Hospice for their loving care of our sister.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Laufane’s memory to Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, PO Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.
