Carolyn Beverly Smith Brinson 93, of Hiltonia passed at the Pine View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Savannah, Georgia to Robert Nathaniel and Emma Elizabeth Eastmead Smith and along with the family relocated to Screven County in her youth. She was a graduate of Hiltonia High School and the Georgia Teacher’s College having earned a degree in education. She taught grammar school in Hiltonia for two years, was employed with Sardis Manufacturing for 17 years as a machine operator, assistant supervisor, and controller of the shipping department, and lastly retired from Torrington as a machine operator with 17 years of service. As a youth she played the piano and organ for Hiltonia Christian Church, a love of service she continued for 25 years, and 27 years for Hiltonia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Norwood Edsel Brinson; brother, Roderick Redo Smith; and son-in-law, Randy Waters.
She is survived by her daughter, Luticia “Tisha” Waters of Hiltonia, sons and daughters-in-law, Lamarr & Teresia Brinson of Halcyondale and Redo & Lynn Brinson of Sylvania, grandchildren, Courtney & Jacob South of Savannah, Ashley & Aaron Lariscy of Hiltonia, Leigh & Mike Dotschay of Sylvania, and Lindsey & Tyson Bennett of Millen, great-grandchildren, Sidnie Dotschay, Brinson Dotschay, Annaston Dotschay, Braxton South, Stella South, Anna Lariscy, Ty Bennett, and Avari Bennett.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 11:00am in the Screven Chapel Joiner Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating. Visitation will be held for an hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Bascom Cemetery in Hiltonia, GA.
Pallbearers will be Jacob South, Clark Lawson, Billy Powell, Mike Dotschay, Brinson Dotschay, and Carl Bragg.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Hiltonia Baptist Church Deacons, Floyd Williams, Jeff Demmon, and John Fries.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hiltonia Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1941, Sylvania, GA 30467.
