Mr. Emory Howard Young, age 74 of Sessions Road in Tennille, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate, and pallbearers will be Jordan Reid, Colby Mathis, Josh Young, Jacob Pool, Michael Young, and Sylvester Hooks. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Mr. Young was a lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Joe Newman Young and the late Nell Pool Young. He held an associate’s degree from Brewton Parker College and a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the University of Georgia. Mr. Young spent his entire working career working Young’s Dairy, which was began by his father. He was a board member for Southeast United Dairy Industry Association and also a member of Dairy Farmers of America. Mr. Young was a hard and dedicated worker, but also enjoyed being able to get away to Jekyll Island and spend time with his family every year. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Young was of the Baptist faith and attended Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church.
Mr. Young is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sherry Studdard Young; sons, Robert Gary Young and his wife Dorothy of Sandersville, Patrick Brian Young of Kennesaw, Jonathan William Young and his wife Christina of Statesboro, and Christopher Joseph Young and his wife Haley of Macon; grandchildren, Finley Young, Pierce Young, and Lucas Young; brothers, Charles Pool Young and his wife Sandra of Sandersville and Joe Russell Young and his wife Yong Sun of Eatonton; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mr. Young’s memory to Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church at 154 Mt. Gilead Church Road, Tennille GA 31089.
