Albert Monroe Braswell III

Albert “Al” Monroe Braswell, III passed away peacefully September 6, 2024 at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient facility in Statesboro.

He was born on January 18, 1947 in Statesboro, GA, where he grew up. After graduating from Statesboro High School in 1965 he later graduated from Georgia Southern College with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing.

He was a founding member of the Chi Sigma Fraternity at GSC, and a part of the original group of brothers who worked to obtain the charter for Sigma Chi Fraternity in 1971. He was also a lifelong member of the Statesboro Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter.

After graduation he worked with several food brokerage firms in Charlotte and Raleigh, NC. He also managed the Thurston Motor Lines terminal in Orangeburg, SC before returning to Statesboro to work with his father, Albert M. Braswell, Jr., at Braswell Food Company. He served in many roles and capacities during his 27-year career, most recently Chairman of the Board, before retiring a few years following the sale of the business.

Al was a member of several civic and social organizations including the Statesboro Downton Rotary Club, and Forest Heights Country Club. He was an active member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church and always enjoyed time and fellowship with his Sunday School Class (Serson), at church as well as outside functions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert M. Braswell, Jr. and Dorothy Braswell Banks.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne Wannamaker Braswell, and 2 sons: Jeffrey Monroe Braswell (Allison) and Gregory Allen Braswell. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Monroe Talmadge, Jackson Adler, and Coley Ann of Savannah, GA and Banks Walker of Jacksonville, FL., Sisters: Bonnie Braswell Powers of Savannah, GA and Susie Braswell Haymans of Southerland Bluff, GA. A beloved Aunt: Jean Braswell of Statesboro, GA and special friend Sheila Hotchkiss of Statesboro, GA.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. The funeral will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ricky Allen officiating.

Interment will be at Eastside Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Serson Sunday School Class from First Baptist Church of Statesboro.
