The University of North Dakota’s School of Medicine & Health Sciences has appointed Dr. Jacob C. Warren as the new director of its Center for Rural Health, bringing over 20 years of leadership experience and a strong background in rural health research to the role. Warren was the founding co-executive director for the Rural Health Research Institute at Georgia Southern University.

In observance of Christmas, City Hall and other city buildings will be closed December 24th-25th, with modified waste collection dates, including no collection on December 24th and 25th, and adjusted routes for the remainder of the week.

On December 15th, members of the community gathered at Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro to honor veterans by placing holiday wreaths on their graves. Thanks to the generosity of local donors, this Wreaths Across America effort was able to place a total of 360 wreaths at the cemetery.

Bulloch County held an initial swearing-in ceremony on December 20, where Probate Judge Lorna DeLoach, Superior Court Judges Lovett Bennett Jr. and Michael T. Muldrew, and Solicitor General Catherine Findley were reappointed. The main ceremony for all newly elected and re-elected officials is scheduled for December 30 at 10 a.m. in the historic Bulloch County Courthouse.

Big Lots is set to close its doors in Statesboro after more than 20 years in business. The retailer, located in the Statesboro Square Shopping Center, will begin “going-out-of-business” sales after Christmas as part of a company-wide closure following its bankruptcy filing in September.
