Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center to commemorate 150 years of the Willow Hill School and Community

Celebrate the rich 150-year legacy of the Willow Hill School and Community at the 2024 Annual Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center event on August 31st and September 1st, featuring a symposium, gospel festival, archival activities, and guided museum tours—all free and open to the public.

Join the Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center for the 2024 Annual Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center Celebration, marking the 150-year legacy of the Willow Hill School and Community.

This two-day event will take place on August 31st and September 1st, 2024, featuring a range of activities including a symposium on African American soldiers from Bulloch County, a Gospel Festival, a community archival event, and guided museum tours. 

All weekend events are free and open to the public.The Gospel festival on Sunday, September 1st will honor the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Rutha Mae Harris - SNCC Digital Gateway SNCC Digital Gateway and her niece Angie Gibson will sing many of the songs of the Civil Rights movement. Mrs. Harris, age 83, is one of the original SNCC Freedom Singers. Additionally, Muarlean Edwards, who participated in the Albany Movement, will discuss her experience as a child in the movement. Local gospel singers will participate during this special as well.

    • Speakers: Dr. Maxine Bryant, Dr. Brian Feltman, Johnette Brooks, and Public History graduate student Lawrence Heber
    • Lunch: Available for purchase, prepared by Mosley Farms
  • Afternoon Archival Event
    • Activities: Scanning funeral program collections, conducting oral interviews, and gathering family pictures and artifacts related to military service in Bulloch County
  • Museum Tours: Available during the afternoon

  • Gospel Festival
