WEATHER ALERT: Bulloch opening last resort warming shelter | Dangerous low temps and wind chills expected

Wind Chill predictions for Bulloch County for Saturday night as of 1/16/24

Ted Wynn, Bulloch County Public Safety Director has decided to open a last resort warming shelter this week due to extremely cold temperatures expected in Bulloch County. 

On Tuesday afternoon the NWS Charleston is predicting low temperatures of 25 with wind chill values as low as 15.  For Wednesday night the low is predicted to be 23.  It will warm up on Thursday night with a low of 39 before dropping again on Friday night to a low of 23 and 18 on Saturday night.

With this in mind Wynn has requested VOAD partners to open temporary, last resort warming shelters.

Pittman Park United Methodist Church - Tuesday & Wednesday

Bulloch County VOAD partner, Pittman Park United Methodist Church, is opening a last resort warming shelter at the church, located at 1102 Fair Road in Statesboro on Tuesday and Wednesday night at 6 PM each night.  Citizens can enter from the rear of the church using the fellowship hall doors. This shelter is for Bulloch County citizens who have no other place to go to get out of the dangerously cold temperatures.

First Presbyterian Church - Friday & Saturday

Bulloch County VOAD partner, First Presbyterian Church, is opening a last resort warming shelter at the church located at 1215 Fair Road in Statesboro on Friday and Saturday nights at 6 PM each night.  Citizens can enter from the rear of the church.  This shelter is for Bulloch County Citizens who have no other place to go to get out of the dangerously cold temperatures.  

Coats and Blankets Distributed

Fostering Bulloch Hope Chest has distributed blankets and coats to local law enforcement agencies and to the shelter for citizens who need them.
