Tragic death of Portal teenager shakes local community

A tragic accident in Portal, GA has claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy, leaving the community in mourning. The teenager was struck by a car Wednesday evening. The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief from the Portal community.

A tragic incident unfolded in Portal, GA on Wednesday evening, August 28, 2024, when a 16-year-old male was struck by a car while walking near Portal Middle/High School. The accident occurred at approximately 9:40pm on the intersection of Highway 80 and North Grady Street.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the teenager was walking eastbound when he was hit by a sedan traveling in the same direction. Emergency responders, including Bulloch County EMS, Bulloch County Fire, and local law enforcement, rushed to the scene following a 911 call.

Bulloch County EMS paramedics worked swiftly to stabilize and transport the injured teen to East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) in critical condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for advanced medical care.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Bulloch County Coroner Richard Pylant confirmed that the young man succumbed to his injuries at 12:45am on Thursday.
