This April, the Teal House will host its 3rd annual Teal Ribbon 5K & Fun Run. The races will take place on Saturday, April 29, beginning and ending at the RAC on the Georgia Southern campus. Registration for the Kids Fun Run, which will begin at 8:30am, is $10. Registration for the 5K, which will begin at 9am, is $35. Franklin Chevrolet is the presenting sponsor of the run.

Overall awards and 10-year age group awards will be presented at the RAC pavilion upon race completion. Runners will also have access to free race photos online, and those who register by April 16 are guaranteed a t-shirt.

The Teal House is a sexual assault and child advocacy center non-profit that serves Bulloch, Screven, Jenkins, Candler, Evans, Effingham, and other counties. Services provided by the Teal House include a 24-hour crisis line, child forensic interviews, on-site forensic medical exams by a trained sexual assault nurse examiner, medical and legal accompaniment by trained victim advocates, referrals for counseling and other resources, and community outreach and education.

"We are eager and excited to host our annual 5K and Fun Run on April 29th," Brittany Odom, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Coordinator at the Teal House, shared. "We will have some of our community sponsors and partners at the race as vendors. We strive to ensure that no victim of sexual assault or abuse goes unheard in a community that understands the impact of sexual violence on its members."

Funds raised from this year’s Teal Ribbon fundraiser will assist in providing quality training for advocates, forensic medical exam supplies, toys and other comforting items for young victims, supplies for Teal House nurses and staff, and continued valuable emotional support resources for victims of sexual assault.

"The month of April is known as sexual assault awareness month along with child abuse prevention month," Odom added. "If you look closely at our race advertisements, you will see the teal ribbon along with the blue ribbon. These are the colors of sexual assault awareness and child abuse awareness."
