Lift As You Grow is a local non-profit organization that empowers vulnerable and at-risk women by providing economic mobility through part-time, transitional employment and adult education as well as a safe space for a healing and healthy society.
Sally Scott, founder of Lift As You Grow, shared her own personal story about the experience that led to the organization's inception. Scott, a single mother, expressed that her primary focus had always been on providing and caring for her family. However, in 2020, she faced a major setback when she lost her job. This loss brought forth worries about the future and the responsibilities that come with parenthood.
Scott candidly admitted, "If it wasn't for my support system, I'm not sure what I would've done."
Yet, amidst the hardship, a greater opportunity emerged.
"I always knew in my heart I wanted to work with women and children, and hearing about those without the support system I had, which carried me through my difficult time, broke me. I knew I had to do something," Scott said. "I wanted to create a system that would support women and the children they care for. I wanted them to know they always had a place they could turn to for support. And that's how 'Lift As You Grow' was born."
Since its inception, Lift As You Grow has achieved significant milestones. In December of 2021, the Georgia Power Citizens Foundation awarded a legacy gift of $10,000 to Lift As You Grow, recognizing the organization's dedication to empowering women in the community. In the spring of 2022, Lift As You Grow became a United Way of Southeast Georgia Community Partner, further solidifying its commitment to making a positive impact.
In April of the same year, Lift As You Grow launched its groundbreaking program, "Hope Lifting." This 12-week program provides participants with comprehensive support, including counseling, professional development, transitional employment (if needed), access to available resources, and a strong sense of community.
As part of the transitional portion of the employment program, participants learn the skills to create and sell candles in support of Lift As You Grow's mission. These candles are available at the Main Street Farmer's Market, Forest Heights Pharmacy, 30 Volume Salon, and other various locations. In addition to candles, participants are taught how to sew and have market bags for sale at the Farmer’s Market. The proceeds from these sales directly benefit the "Hope Lifting" program and its participants, empowering them to take charge of their lives and create a brighter future.

"Our programs and impact on the community are just the beginning. We envision a future where every woman feels empowered and supported in her journey towards economic mobility and personal growth."
One of the biggest ways they hope to accomplish this is through the kick-off of their upcoming inaugural fundraising event, Lift As You Give.
The "Lift As You Give" event promises to be an unforgettable evening with a tailgate feel, offering attendees the chance to make a real difference in the lives of women in the community. The event will be held at Forest Heights Country Club and will feature live music by Miranda Winter, as well as an enticing silent auction.
