Statesboro PD offers updates on recent aggravated assault investigations

The Statesboro Police Department has provided an update on several recent aggravated assault cases as investigations unfold. Arrests have been made in the shootings at Copper Beech and The Vault.

The purpose of this release is to follow up on previous releases concerning aggravated assault, specifically shooting, investigations worked by the Statesboro Police Department in the past few weeks.See the updates below.

Shooting on 4/16/24 at Copper Beech Townhomes (1400 Statesboro Place Circle) 

Officer Joey Deloach was shot during the investigation of entering autos called in by a tenant in the complex. Anthony Kent (19, Vidalia, GA) was arrested with a stolen firearm by SPD officers and BCSO deputies after a foot pursuit.

Kent was indicted by the Bulloch County Grand Jury on 5/7/24 on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Entering Auto (2 counts), Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Felony), and Obstruction of an Officer (Felony).

He remains in the Bulloch County Jail. Special Agents of GBI’s Region 5 Office conducted the use of force investigation while SPD detectives worked the criminal case against Kent for shooting APO Deloach.

Shooting on 4/17/24 at The Vault Apartments (1699 Statesboro Place Circle) 

A 17-year-old with extensive criminal history was shot and transported to Memorial in Savannah. He survived his injuries. Detectives determined that the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute involving the parties and arrested the following individuals: 

  • Jayden Staley (18, Statesboro): Aggravated Assault, Financial Transaction Card Theft (earlier unrelated case), Giving False Name to Law Enforcement, and Criminal Trespass. 
  • Unnamed juvenile (14, Statesboro): Aggravated Assault 
  • Jayvion Johnson (18, Savannah): Aggravated Assault, Robbery (stems from an earlier unrelated case from 4/15/24), and Obstruction of Officers 
  • Nasir Wilson (17, Statesboro): Aggravated Assault and Robbery (stems from an earlier unrelated case from 4/15/24) 

The investigation continues into these individuals for other incidents reported to SPD and further charges are possible. The adults remain in the Bulloch County Jail. 

Case Detective: Detective Dustin Hardin 


Shooting on 4/28/24 at The Vault Apartments (1699 Statesboro Place Circle) 

A 20-year-old was shot by a stray round during an exchange of gunfire by parties outside his building. He survived his injuries. Detectives believe the shots fired stemmed from a personal dispute between two groups. This incident is not related to the previous Vault shooting. The following individuals have been arrested in connection with the case: 

  • Ar’quise Newton (18, Statesboro): False Statements and Writings 
  • Shamarge Brown (18, Sylvania): Aggravated Assault 
  • Aurico Delauder (19, Statesboro): Aggravated Assault 

The investigation continues into this case and additional arrests are possible. Brown and Delauder remain in the Bulloch County Jail.
