On September 20, 2024, the American Legion Dexter Allen Post 90 in Statesboro, Georgia, will host Stand Down for Homeless Veterans, which is targeted at reducing the number of veterans who are homeless or about to become homeless. The American Legion is partnering with the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center and local resources to help rehouse homeless veterans.

The American Legion says in 2023, there were 67,495 homeless veterans in the United States. Sadly, 10.6% of all homeless people in the U.S. are veterans. This Stand Down event intends to bring more awareness to the problem while providing resources to help keep veterans housed.

At the event, the Statesboro post will offer a resource fair for veterans experiencing homelessness, as well as provide a meal of hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Event details are below.
