Saturday in the South means three things – football, family, and food. And no one knows that better than Georgia-based and alumni-owned Shuman Farms. And now, as the newly-named Official Sweet Onion of Georgia Southern Athletics, Shuman Farms is looking forward to celebrating Eagle gamedays and all the tailgates and watch parties that come along with them.

"Being named the Official Sweet Onion of Georgia Southern Athletics is a tremendous honor for Shuman Farms," said John Shuman, CEO of Shuman Farms and Georgia Southern graduate. "As a family-owned business with deep roots in Georgia, we are thrilled to support a university that contributes so much to our state. We're looking forward to educating the next generation of shoppers and promoting sweet onions as an essential ingredient – especially as a part of a great tailgate spread."

Renowned for their unique flavor and versatility, sweet onions are no stranger to gameday menus. Whether it's toppings on burgers and hot dogs at a tailgate, crispy fried onion rings from the concession stand, or as an ingredient in your favorite dips and appetizers, sweet onions are sure to be the MVP of any menu lineup.

As the Official Sweet Onion, Shuman Farms will provide a range of promotional activities and engagement opportunities for students, alumni, and fans at Georgia Southern. Additionally, sweet onion-centric recipes will be featured during events on campus, adding a sweet twist to the gameday experience. The Shuman Farms team is looking forward to interacting with fellow fans, sharing more about their sustainable agriculture operations in Georgia and beyond, and inspiring the consumption of fresh produce.

"By teaming up with Shuman Farms, we have a new and unique opportunity to celebrate two things that are the backbone of our local and regional communities – agriculture and Georgia Southern," said Cam Brown, Manager of Business Development for GSU Sports Properties. "We can't wait to see this partnership come to life on gamedays this fall and beyond."

Shuman Farms has also partnered with the Eagle Nation Collective, the Official Collective of Georgia Southern Athletics, to provide opportunities to work with Georgia Southern Student Athletes "The partnership with Shuman Farms will have a long-term positive impact on our student athletes as it will give them the opportunity to connect their personal brand to a strong national brand in Shuman Farms, working together to highlight the agricultural impact on Statesboro and the surrounding areas," said Kyle Vantrease, former GS Football Student Athlete and current manager of business development for the Eagle Nation Collective.

Dolan's Bar-B-Que, located at 239 South Main Street in Statesboro, will be running specials this weekend and beyond featuring Shuman Farms sweet onions to give members of Eagle Nation an opportunity to sample their sweet flavor. Shuman Farms' Sweet Onions can also be found in Paulson Stadium this fall featured in multiple menu items at the Kickback Shack.
