Scam Alert: Scam phone calls about voter registration have been reported

Election season is here, and with it comes a flood of information from third-party organizations. These groups have access to your phone numbers and addresses, so don't be surprised if your mailbox and voicemail fill up fast. In Bulloch County, it's typical to see 25-30 people bringing in scam mail to the Elections and Voter Registration Office, not to mention the phone calls.

With election season in full throttle, local residents may receive scam calls and messages asking about voter registration and requesting personal information.

Here in Bulloch County, some residents are receiving phone calls stating that their registration has expired and then referring them to another number to call and text to be reinstated. Do not give them your information.

While third-party organizations have access to some of your information, they don't have the most up-to-date sources and may not be acting in your best interest.

"If you aren't sure about something, call us first so that we can verify and check if your voter registration is still current," said Joanne Nesmith, Clerk at Bulloch County's Elections and Voter Registration Office.

If you get a phone call or receive mail requesting your personal information related to voter registration, contact the Elections and Voter Registration Office at the Bulloch County Annex. Their contact information is provided below.
