Last Weekend, Get Tight Productions hosted a Ranch Rodeo at the Bulloch County Agricultural Complex.
The event was a fundraiser for Fostering Bulloch, while showcasing the daily life (and skills) of a real ranch cowboy.
A ranch rodeo is meant to showcase the day-to-day skills of a ranch cowboy.
And according to Jason Wamba, Owner of Get Tight Productions and the Announcer and Producer to the Ranch Rodeo, "these are more than your average rodeo cowboys; these guys do this work for a living. We’ve got 9 teams here that consist of local cowboys, and cowboys from Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee."
Wamba continues by explaining how a portion of the proceeds will go to support the efforts and organization of Fostering Bulloch.
He said, “We are donating 10% of the proceeds from the gate to Fostering Bulloch, and 100% of the proceeds from the Teen Roping event to Fostering Bulloch. We have raised $2000 so far and will have more to donate after final sales are calculated. I would like to thank every one of my sponsors for their generous support and contributions to helping make this event a success.”
The Ranch Rodeo consisted of several events. They included a stray-gathering event, a doctoring/branding event, a trailer-loading event, a wild cow milking event, and a calf-scramble children’s event.
The Calf-scramble had children line up and chase a calf whose tail had a flag on it. $50 was given to the child who successfully caught the flag off the end of the calf’s tail.
Each of the other four events were timed and involved a 4-man team of cowboys. The other four events highlighted the different parts of cowboy life and showcased various ranch operations.
Stray-gathering event: Cowboys had to select and separate two cows from the herd. They had to rope each cow and tie them down. They had 2 1/2 minutes to tie both cows down in a 3-bone cross (3 legs have to be crossed, no matter the size of the cow).
Doctoring and branding event: The announcer called out a cow number and needed that cow pulled out of the herd. Cowboys had to rope it, pull it down on the ground, and give it a "shot" (marking him with a paint marker).
Trailer-loading event: Cowboys had to catch a cow, and load it onto a trailer.
Wild cow milking event: Cowboys had to rope a cow and get milk from it into a bottle. They had to take the bottle over to a finisher's circle afterwards, and pour it out to stop the timer.
