Last night, an armed robbery at a Marathon Convenience Store in Bulloch County escalated into a high-speed chase involving law enforcement officers and the suspect in a large U-Haul moving truck. The pursuit ended in tragedy as shots were fired by officers, resulting in the death of the suspect near Clito Road and Highway 301 North.

The incident unfolded on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 9:54 pm when the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call reporting an armed robbery at the Marathon Convenience Store situated at 21196 Highway 80 East, at the crossroads of Highway 80 East and Burkhalter Road.

Responding deputies quickly located the suspect's vehicle, a U-Haul moving truck, and attempted to pull it over. However, the suspect refused to comply, leading to a dangerous pursuit. During the chase, the suspect deliberately rammed into multiple law enforcement vehicles and narrowly missed striking several deputies who were on foot.

The pursuit eventually led onto Highway 301 North, where law enforcement officers, supported by Georgia State Troopers, managed to bring the U-Haul to a halt after it crashed into power lines. Multiple shots were fired by officers during the confrontation, resulting in the suspect's death at the scene.
