Last week, Pittman Park Education Center (PPEC) received an exciting and long-awaited update: new flooring throughout the childcare center!
Kimberly Mitchell, the center’s director, said that she and the PPEC staff have been working toward this improvement since March 2022. “We wanted to create a positive learning environment that is clean, comfortable, and inviting,” she shared.
When they considered the impact that new flooring could have on their children and teachers, especially in creating more functional and efficient spaces, they decided to make it a priority.
Mitchell said that, thanks to various funding sources for the “huge project,” including a small grant and savings, they were able to make their vision come to life.
Mitchell and other PPEC staff members worked tirelessly to move every item out of the classrooms day-by-day as the new flooring was laid. Now, they are looking forward to seeing the positive impact that this project will have on their students, families, staff, and church family.
“PPEC staff are excited to have an updated look in their classrooms. The wood appearance makes the classrooms feel more like home, and that fosters our goal here at PPEC, to make the children feel like they are at home away from home,” Mitchell explained.
PPEC was established as a ministry of Pittman Park UMC in 1983 and has 70 children currently enrolled.
