“I got to attend the Mattie Lively Character parade on Halloween. It was so good. The kids had a great time and I enjoyed myself,” said board member Jay Cook.

Board member Glennera Martin and Chair Williams also mentioned the book parades at the schools.

“When you watch the kids marching down the street, they're just so happy,” said Williams.

Public Participation: None.

School Spotlight: Julia P. Bryant Elementary

Superintendent Charles Wilson introduced the presenters for the school spotlight, JPB principal Stephanie Compton and assistant principals Noel Nafziger and Derek Noel.

GMAS results for Spring 2024 were presented, which showed great improvement for JPB, with all students and subgroups of students exceeding their target scores in the reading category.

There's still room for growth in the science category, as none of the subgroups met their score targets. New math standards were set for this year's math GMAS, so targets were not set. Yet students' scores have increased from last year.

With the use of iReady reading and math diagnostics, JPB saw some slight improvements in student comprehension.

JPB has set two goals as a part of their school improvement plan:

1. Julia P. Bryant Elementary will increase its CCRPI ELA weighted content mastery score for all students by 3% from 64.6% in 2022 to 65.7 in 2023: to 66.7 in 2024 and 67.7% in 2025 by implementing comprehensive literacy instruction.

Initiative: Implement comprehensive literacy instruction

  • Guided Reading-4th year of implementation
  • UFLI K-2nd grades and MTSS
  • Collaborative PLCs to create common assessments and analyze data to coordinate students' instructional needs
  • Reading Rockstar Program including Millionaire Readers Club

2. Julia P. Bryant Elementary will increase its overall CCRPI weighted content mastery score by 3% from 64.9% in 2022 to 66% in 2023; to 67% in 2024 and 68% in 2025 by implementing comprehensive school-wide intervention and recognition plans to ensure students are supported, engaged and successful.
