The Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market held its vibrant Summer Sendoff on Saturday, July 27, 2024, spotlighting the Kids4Kids Farmers Market—a unique event that showcases the talents of young entrepreneurs. As local students prepared to head back to school, this special market offered them a platform to sell items they've grown or crafted themselves, with participants ranging in age from 5 to 16.
The Kids4Kids Farmers Market, now in its second year after being established in 2023, featured a diverse array of 23 young vendors spread across 25 tables.
These young entrepreneurs brought creativity and enthusiasm to their stands, offering a variety of products including face painting, handmade jewelry, crocheted plushies, and refreshing lemonade.
One of the standout aspects of the event was the charitable spirit fostered among the young vendors. A portion of the proceeds from their sales was donated to Fostering Bulloch, an organization dedicated to supporting local foster children.
This initiative not only highlighted the importance of kindness and charity but also provided the young participants with a valuable lesson in community involvement and the impact of their contributions.
An award ceremony capped off the event, celebrating the efforts of these budding business owners. Each participant received a certificate, and special Rolling Monkey-themed trophies were awarded in three categories:
- Create to Inspire: Awarded to Glitter & Glue for their creative spirit glitter and body art sets.
- Most Profitable: Kind Kebabs took this title with their innovative candy, fruit, and doughnut skewer kebabs.
- Most Charitable: Paint & Pour was recognized for their outstanding generosity, donating every dollar earned—totaling $300—to Fostering Bulloch. Their table featured lemonade and hand-painted flower pots.
Overall, the Kids4Kids market raised just over $1,000 for Fostering Bulloch, a significant achievement that underscores the community's generosity and the hard work of these young entrepreneurs.
Reflecting on the event's success, Willow Farmer, market manager for the Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market, expressed her joy: “We are so happy with the turnout and for all of the kids and their families. Everyone had a great time and are excited to come back next year.”
The event was a resounding success, and the community looks forward to supporting these young entrepreneurs and their charitable causes again next year. Thank you to all who participated and supported this special experience!
