There was a great turnout for the Boro Chili Fest, held Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Statesboro Visitor’s Center—home of the local farmers market.
Formerly known as Boro Chilitown, the event returned under a new name and location, benefiting the Humane Society of Statesboro and Bulloch County.

Many local favorites and new faces alike participated in the chili cook-off. Jim ‘n Nick’s brought their brisket chili served with their famous cheese biscuits, while the 2023 winner, the Bulloch County Fire Department, was back to defend their title.
Newcomers included Texas Roadhouse and a family team called Three Spices, Three Generations. The trio—a grandmother, mother, and granddaughter—entered the event thanks to the youngest member, Katavia Moore, who joked that their chili was “easily the one to beat.”
Nearby, Corporal Joshua Harris and Advanced Patrol Officer Arion Waters served up chili on behalf of the Statesboro Police Department, adding to the friendly competition.
Although the night was chilly, the event’s atmosphere was anything but cold. Families and friends of all ages gathered to enjoy the evening, warming up with hot cocoa from the drink station and plenty of fresh chili.
Vandy’s BBQ featured a fire pit, and The Saucy Shrimp food truck provided a portable heater, offering cozy spots for attendees to gather.
Beyond the chili booths, local craft vendors added a creative touch. Retired Wire and Lois Harvey Ceramics showcased their handmade goods, giving attendees even more to explore.
This year’s Boro Chili Fest was made possible by sponsors Georgia Power and Statesboro Properties. The Statesboro Properties team grilled fresh hot dogs for attendees, sharing their excitement about supporting the community and thanking the grill team for their hard work.
All proceeds and donations from the event will go directly to the Humane Society to support animal rescue and rehoming efforts.
