Update 6/26: The 8 year old boy has succumbed to is injuries from the car crash on Saturday.
Bulloch County 911 dispatched Statesboro Police Department and Bulloch County EMS to a child struck by a car around 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 24,2023.
The child was struck in the intersection of South College Street and Mikell Street in the City of Statesboro.
According to GSP Sergent Robbie Scott an 8 year old boy was riding a bicycle and did not yield to an SUV that was traveling south on South College Street.
The boy was traveling east on Mikell Street when he entered the intersection into the path of the SUV. He was thrown from the bicycle and was in critical condition at the scene. Bulloch County EMS Paramedics transported the child to the Air Evac base on Fair Road. He was then transported by a medical helicopter to Memorial Medical Center.
At last report, early Sunday morning, the boy remains on life support at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
There were two other children, ages 8 and 9, who were traveling with the 8 year old boy. They were riding a type of electric scooter, together. The other two children were not struck by the SUV but witnessed the accident.
The mother was not with the child at the time of the accident, but was at a home on Mikell Street. The three children were not wearing helmets.
Georgia State Patrol in in charge of the investigation.
