A Bulloch County Schools student has died after being struck by a car Wednesday morning.
Bulloch County 911 dispatched Bulloch County EMS, Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies and Georgia State Patrol on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 7:10 AM to the intersection of Maria Sorrell Road and Stillwater Drive to a child struck by a car.
Bulloch County EMS transported the child, in critical condition, to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
According to GSP Post 45 Sargent Robbie Scott, the 12 year old student at William James Middle school and his mom were waiting for the bus at a little after 7:00 AM.
They saw the bus approach the intersection of Maria Sorrell Road and Stillwater Drive and stop. The student thought the bus was stopping for him.
However, the bus was yielding to a vehicle traveling north on Maria Sorrell. The child ran across the road into the path of the oncoming car and was struck and critically injured by that vehicle.
Bulloch County Corner Jake Futch confirmed that the 12 year old student died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the car crash.
Bus NOT involved in accident
Sargent Scott stressed the bus was not involved in the accident. It was simply stopped to make a turn onto Stillwater. He also confirmed the driver of the vehicle that struck the child is cooperating with the investigation.
GSP has requested SCRT (Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team) to the scene to assist with the investigation.
There are no additional details or information available at this time.
Grice Connect extends our condolences to the student's family and friends.
