On Sunday, August 6, 2023 Bulloch County Fire Department and Statesboro Fire Department responded to 110 S Womack Rd in the Portal area, in reference to a reported structure fire.

Firefighters received notification from a passerby that reported smoke from the residence.

Bulloch County firefighters from BCFD Station 2 in Portal responded to investigate at 4:25pm.

Due to the close proximity to the fire station, firefighters were on scene in less than two minutes with smoke showing and requesting additional units for a working structure fire.

Due to an aggressive interior attack, firefighters reported the fire controlled at 4:32pm confining the majority of the fire damage to a single room and contents.

Firefighters ventilated the residence and notified an investigator for a routine cause and origin investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time, but it is believed to be accidental in nature. There were no injuries reported.

Bulloch County Fire Department would like to remind citizens to test their smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly and practice exit drills in the home.
