The Bulloch County Fire Department, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will host the “Smoke Alarm Blitz 2025” on May 3, 2025, in the Olney Station area. The event aims to install working smoke alarms in homes that do not currently have them, with the goal of reducing fire-related injuries and fatalities in the community.

With over 3,600 civilian fire deaths reported in the U.S. in 2023, home fires are a leading cause of death, accounting for 92% of these casualties. Fires in residential areas are reported every 95 seconds, and a home fire-related death occurs every three hours, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The Bulloch County Fire Department, which serves the county’s residents and visitors, is dedicated to preventing such tragedies. The installation of smoke alarms, which can provide early detection of fires, is one of the most effective ways to reduce fire-related deaths.

The event will provide up to three working smoke alarms per residence at no cost to taxpayers. The American Red Cross will assist with the installations, ensuring that as many homes as possible benefit from this safety initiative.

Residents in the Olney Station area who wish to request smoke alarms can contact the Bulloch County Fire Department at 912-489-1661.

By teaming up with the American Red Cross, the fire department hopes to make a significant impact in preventing future home fire tragedies.

The Smoke Alarm Blitz 2025 is part of an ongoing effort to protect the community from the devastating effects of structure fires. The installation of smoke alarms is one of the simplest, yet most crucial, steps toward saving lives and preventing property damage.

For more information or to request smoke alarms, residents in the Olney Station area are encouraged to call the Bulloch County Fire Department at 912-489-1661.
