Local artist Sharon DeLoach Farkas recently had 2 of her original artwork paintings selected to be displayed in two prominent Georgia state offices. When the paintings go up, one will be displayed in the Governor's Mansion, while the other will be displayed in the Georgia State Council office.
Farkas participated in the Georgia Council for the Arts' "Art of Georgia" contest and submitted two of her paintings, which were both selected as winning pieces.
The contest requires applicants to be Georgia artists who submit paintings of different places in Georgia. Farkas's first painting depicts a sunset over the rice fields at Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation outside of Brunswick, GA.
The second painting depicts Gould's Inlet at St. Simons Island.
"I grew up in Denmark and Statesboro, graduated from Southeast Bulloch, and got an art degree from Georgia Southern," Farkas shared. "Art has always been interesting to me, and I started painting when my children were out of high school. I began entering art shows and taking art classes. I have an art studio at home and do commissions for others. I got to take my paintings to the Capitol building and go into the Governor's Office and meet the Governor and First Lady. I took two of my grandchildren and husband, and it was a very nice experience. This is the second time that I've had paintings chosen to be in the Capitol building."
