Residents of the Hazlewood subdivision were reminded of the importance of securing their vehicles and valuables after a series of car break-ins were discovered on Thursday morning, March 27, 2025. The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incidents and is urging citizens to take preventative measures to avoid becoming victims.
According to authorities, several residents awoke to find that their cars had been entered overnight. Hazlewood residents who reached out to Grice Connect about the incidents indicated that there were no signs of forced entry, suggesting that the vehicles were likely left unlocked.
This incident underscores a concerning trend in the area. Officials highlighted local statistics from 2019 to 2024, which show a staggering 275 reported firearm thefts. Of those, 92%, or all but 21, were stolen from unlocked vehicles. This data emphasizes the significant role unlocked cars play in facilitating such crimes.
In response to the recent break-ins, the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office is strongly encouraging all residents to lock their car doors, even when parked at home. They also advise against leaving any valuables in plain sight within vehicles. Additionally, residents are reminded to ensure their home security cameras, such as Ring doorbells or other systems, are functioning correctly, as they can provide valuable evidence in the event of a crime.
Sheriff Brown is urging anyone with information related to the Hazlewood subdivision car break-ins to come forward. Individuals with information are asked to contact the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office at (912)764-8888 and request to speak with an investigator.
The Sheriff's Office hopes that by raising awareness and encouraging simple preventative measures, they can help reduce the number of vehicle break-ins and thefts in the community.
