The spirit of Bourbon Street officially arrived in Statesboro on Monday, March 24, 2025, as Huey’s on Main New Orleans Cuisine celebrated its ribbon cutting with city leaders, Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce, and excited community members in attendance. The ceremony marked not only the formal welcome of Huey’s to the Blue Mile but also the realization of a decades-long dream shared by its owners and operators.
Located at 232 South Main Street, next to the Quality Inn & Suites, Huey’s on Main is the second location of the beloved Savannah restaurant Huey’s on the River, known for its authentic New Orleans cuisine and world-famous beignets. But beyond the menu, the new location is rooted in personal history, family ties, and a deep commitment to Statesboro’s growth.

Speaking on behalf of Co-Owner Tom Scarborough, who was unable to attend, Co-Owner Bob Isaacson delivered heartfelt remarks about the journey that led them here. Isaacson and Scarborough have been involved with the Huey’s brand since the early 1990s, when Scarborough worked as general manager at the Savannah location. The two formed a strong partnership that has lasted over 30 years. Isaacson praised Scarborough’s longtime love for Statesboro, where he chose to live and raise his children, and said the opening of a Huey’s in the Boro has always been something they both hoped would happen.
Isaacson reflected on the condition of the building, which had sat closed for nearly eight years following the closure of Manny’s. The team gutted the space entirely and rebuilt it from the ground up. It wasn’t just about opening a restaurant, it was about creating something meaningful and lasting for downtown Statesboro.
Among those who played key roles in the transformation were Scarborough’s daughters, Casey Pope and River Green. Pope brought personal creativity to the space by painting several New Orleans-inspired murals and paintings that now adorn the restaurant’s walls. Green, who serves as Operations Manager, has overseen everything from build out to hiring and now leads the daily management of the restaurant.

Isaacson gave particular thanks to Head Chef Rob Schaffer, Chef Shawn Guzman, and General Manager Greg Crawford for their dedication during the long months of preparation. Guzman, who previously ran the kitchen at Nonna Picci, now serves as one of the lead figures in the Huey’s kitchen, helping carry out the bold, Southern flavor the restaurant is known for. Their combined leadership has shaped a menu that’s full of rich, New Orleans staples, from po’boys made with bread shipped in from Louisiana to pasta jambalaya, gumbo, and fresh, hot beignets dusted in powdered sugar.
The restaurant’s arrival also symbolizes a broader belief in the future of the Blue Mile and downtown development. Isaacson praised the efforts of the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce and the supportive community who have welcomed Huey’s from day one. “We’re here because we believe in Statesboro,” he said. “It’s growing, it’s evolving, and we’re proud to be a part of that.”

As Isaacson wrapped up his remarks:
“If you like it, tell your friends. If you don’t, tell me.”
