Council Members Ginny Hendley, Paulette Chavers and Shari Barr sworn in Tuesday morning

Citizens are invited to attend the Oath of Office ceremony on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 9:00 am in the City Council chambers at Statesboro City Hall.

At the first 2024 meeting of the Statesboro City Council on Tuesday morning January 2, 2024 at 9:00 am City Council member elect Ginny Hendley will be sworn in to begin her first term on the Statesboro City Council.

In addition, returning City Council members Shari Barr and Paulette Chavers will be sworn in to begin their second term. 

The ceremony will take place in the City Council chambers located on the second floor of Statesboro City Hall, 50 East Main Street, Statesboro, GA .

Council member Barr did not draw opposition.

Council member Chavers defeated Lawton Sack to return to her position on the Council.

Council member elect Hendley qualified to run against incumbent City Council member Venus Mack.  However, Mack choose not to seek re-election so Hendley ran unopposed.

Bulloch County Probate Judge Lorna Deloach will administer the Oath of Office for the three council members.

Once sworn in the City Council will handle a few items of business, including electing a Mayor Pro Tem for the next two years, and then adjourn for a reception in the City Council Chambers.

Council member Shari Barr currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem.

Ginny Hendley - District 3

Ginny graduated from Mercer University with a degree in Communications and a minor in Psychology and returned HOME to Statesboro to join the family business, Hendley Properties, where she currently manages over 500 homes.

Ginny is heavily involved in the community that she loves. She is a member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church and also its' Choir and considers herself a devoted Christian.

Ginny is also a member of the Rotary Club of Statesboro and a founding member of Women Inspiring and Networking, a local group for women in business.

Ginny was recently named one of Statesboro's 20 under 40 inspiring business and community leaders.  The Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber has also selected Ginny to participate in the 2024 Leadership Bulloch class. 

At her core, Ginny has a heart to help others and bring people together. She was awarded the fundraising winner in the 2022 Dancing with the Statesboro Stars, and is a strong supporter of local groups that work to help others like Safe Haven, Lift as you Grow, the Open Hearts Community Center, Fostering Bulloch, and many more.

She has recently opened  four boutiques, Virginia Luxe, Virginia Curvy, Virginia Love and Momma and Me Maternity, which will not only be used for fashion but as a source for charities and organizations to bring their members to give them a sense of purpose, dignity, and self worth. 

Paulette Chavers - District 2

Paulette was elected to her first term on City Council four years ago.  She is a Bulloch County native and GS double eagle receiving her bachelors child and family development in 2003 and her master’s in school counseling in 2006. 

After completing her masters she became a licensed family counselor and also attained certification as a master addiction counselor and a national certified counselor.

She founded Refocus Counseling and Consulting, Chavers also partners with Road to Success Inc., a counseling firm based in Mount Vernon.

Paulette is a member of Agape Worship Center, where she sings in the choir, and also serves on Queensborough National Bank’s community planning board.

Shari Barr - District 5

Shari is a graduate of SHS and attended Georgia Southern.  She began her career in sales and most recently worked as a field interviewer, mostly for the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. 

Since being elected to City Council four years ago, even though technically it is a part time job, she focuses on it as her only job.

The public is invited to attend the the Oath of Office ceremony and reception.
