Bulloch County Commissioner Curt Deal has officially resigned from his position, effective Monday, October 21, 2024, as he and his family prepare to move to another community in Georgia. Deal, who currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board and who has served on the Board of Commissioners for eight years, expressed his gratitude in a resignation letter addressed to Governor Brian Kemp.
"I have been honored to serve the past eight years with my fellow commissioners. I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of this Board and that of Bulloch County as a whole," Deal wrote. "I am confident that Bulloch County will continue to thrive and wish all the best to the great citizens in the future."
Deal also served as Vice Chairman of the Bulloch County Development Authority and has resigned from that role as well. Commissioner Timmy Rushing has been appointed to replace him as Vice Chairman.
Deal was defeated in the primary election by Ray Davis, who is set to be officially sworn in as the new commissioner in January 2025. Until then, Chief Superior Judge Gates Peed will either appoint someone to fill Deal’s unexpired term or leave the seat vacant until Davis takes office.
Deal’s decision to resign follows significant changes within his family. His daughters, who once operated Max + Molly Children’s Boutique in Statesboro, have relocated their business to Greensboro and Watkinsville, Georgia. Additionally, Deal’s wife, Jenni, is currently on the kidney transplant list at Emory in Atlanta. The family is optimistic about her receiving a transplant soon, and they plan to live near Emory to facilitate her treatment.
Curt Deal leaves behind a legacy of service and leadership within Bulloch County, and his resignation marks the end of an era for the local community.
