Students are safe after a student reported an alleged weapon on William James Middle School's campus according to Hayley Greene, Public Relations Director for Bulloch County Schools.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., on Monday, February 7, 2022, a WJMS student reported to administration that a student was in alleged possession of what looked like a weapon. WJMS administrators immediately informed the school resource officer and the school district's safety officer.
Upon investigation, a toy handgun that shoots rubber BBs was found. In connection with the incident, law enforcement removed two students from campus.
The school greatly appreciates students who see something, and say something. They also want to thank the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
At no point did evidence point to the need for a lockdown of the William James Middle School campus. Students safely continued a normal school schedule during the investigation and until the end of the day. There was also no initial evidence that indicated the students meant to threaten or intimidate anyone with the device.
Families are asked to caution students to be mindful as to what they bring to school.
